Aaron Slater

Aaron Slater is a self-taught glass artist, he has been working glass since 2001.  Growing up Aaron spent much of his time in the woods of New Hampshire, an amateur naturalist of sorts, observing nature through his trusty magnifying glass and sometimes setting it on fire.  But, it was his first snorkeling trip to the reefs of Mexico that changed his appreciation for the natural world forever.  “Going from the woods of New England to the Tropical Coral Reef was like traveling to an inhabited alien planet.  It was so thrilling for me!”

The love of nature and the love of fire continue to inspire Aaron as he creates his work by manipulating hot glass in the flame of a torch, a process called Flameworking.  He now lives and works in Lowell, Massachusetts, but he travels back to dive the reefs of Mexico every year.

Aaron is a self-taught glass artist who’s work has been featured in many shows and publications including:

  • “Glass Art” by Barbara Purchia (Schiffer Publishing)
  • “Good Things Small Packages” (Public Glass, L.H. Selman Ltd.)
  • “Hot Breath” magazine issue 23
