Peter da Silva was born and raised in the Boston area and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and African American Music Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Through his studies he is comfortable in both conventional jazz and classical aesthetics, from interpreting the work of Bach to early swing music to contemporary chamber music, funk, and free jazz. In addition, his work in multiple mediums and styles also necessitates his skill as a woodwind doubler, skilled on multiple instruments in the woodwind family. Ultimately his work is the study of contrasts and relationships, such as exploring the developments of compositional or instrumental techniques or works that
experiment with the boundary between audience and performer.
